If you are interested to have a blog type service in your website, WordPress is one of the best programs to use. It offers tools and services that let you create blog posts easily. It also offers pre-made templates that you can use if you do not want to start from scratch. WordPress is a kind of program that is very beginner friendly. However, there are times when some people get confused with its usage. So here are quick tips and guides for an easier WordPress installation:

  • Before using any blogging programs, always make sure that you can host several domains in your account. It is important to have a separate domain for your blog sites for a better experience for you and your subscribers.
  • For a better WordPress service, it is essential to have programs like PHP version 4.2 or higher, MySQL version 4.0 or higher, and the Apache mod_rewrite module. These things ensure that the scripts will be generated properly. It is also necessary to have an FTP program since this ensures that your files are uploaded properly.
  • MySQL ensures that you can easily set-up your own database. This can be easily configured in your control panel. If you are unsure, you can just contact your host provider for the set-up. Make sure that you will save the information provided such as the database name, user name, password, and host name.
  • Once you are done, you have to download and configure WordPress. You must download the WordPress files to your desktop or to a folder where you can easily find it. When you unzip the WordPress folder, you have to make some changes. When you find the “wp-config-sample” file, you must change the name to “wp-config”. After it, you have to open it. You will find the define (‘DB_NAME’,’wordpress’):// define (‘DB_NAME’,’username’)://, define(‘DB_NAME’,’password’)://, and define(‘DB_NAME’,’localhost’)://. The first three will require you to change the name of your database, MySQL username, and password, respectively. The last one does not need any changes on it. Once you are done, you must save it to preserve the configuration and the changes that you have made.
  • To upload WordPress files, you must use an FTP program. If you do not mind the cost, you can actually use, WS_FTP program. But if

you are on a tight budget, you can also use FileZilla. When uploading the files, ensure that you upload everything within the WordPress folder.

  • To begin WordPress installation, you have to access the wp-admin/install.php since this is where you will run the scripts. You can do this by entering the URL of your domain or subdomain where you have uploaded your WordPress files to then follow it with wp-admin/install.php.
  • Once you are done, a window will open. As you click the First Step link, another window will appear and you must enter the name that you want to use for your blog site. You must also enter your e-mail add. Another important thing is that you have

to check the box that asks you if you want your site to appear in search engines such as Google. When finished, you can continue now to Second Step.

  • When finished, your new blog site is now created and active. Make sure though that you save the username and password that will be given.

These are just the basic steps on WordPress installation. You can now log in to your new blog site. If your web hosting provider does not offer any WordPress services, it is recommended to switch to another one that will give you the best services for your blogging activities.
